I capture likeness with startling clarity and accuracy. For me success in a painting happens when I feel the person looking out at me with his or her particular directness.

I discovered I had this ability at the age of twelve, when I was able to draw the exact face of the person I had a crush on, and gaze upon it at will! Mine to observe! I understand the primal suspicion about pictures as soul-stealers—in some sense they are. In my case I prefer to see them as souls studied.
